Why Captivity Is Harmful

Psychological and Physical Imapcts

It is no secret that captive habitats do not meet the same standard that the wild does. Animals who were once in the wild and then moved to captivity suffer from psychological impacts and can experience stress and anxiety. Over time they lose their ability to hunt and live on their own. They rely on humans and then are never able to go back to the wild. Animals born in captivity are also never able to be released into the wild, as they are taught no natural instinct. Born Free USA explains the harsh realities of animals in captivity, “in aquariums, captive whales and dolphins suffer from high mortality rates, low breeding success, and often endure physical and psychological disorders.”
